As far as charging the batteries I would not suggest hooking them up to your car battery for charging, as you could damage your car battery by the alternator overcharging it. The proper way to charge an additional battery pack off an alternator would be to use a Battery Isolator, such as our Quick Power 120 Amp Battery Isolator Bi303303.
Hi,
I am in the process of installing a Wildhorses 1-wire alternator. The alternator was purchased from another board member here.
The Bronco I am installing it in has dual batteries with a 95 A battery isolator. Having checked that detail I figured I needed to upgrade the isolator to one that at least has 130 A capability for the output of the new alternator.
My question concerns the wiring to and from the isolator.
The wiring to the two batteries from the present isolator is only 10 gauge.
I am thinking this is really undersized.
My question is about the new wiring I will install. The wire from the fused output of the alternator will be 6 ga. Should the output wiring from the isolator to each battery also be 6 ga, or is smaller wire acceptable from the output of the isolator? (I am waiting on the new isolator to arrive, so I'm not sure if the instructions provide that detail.) I am just trying to get prepared to finish the insall.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.
Take Care,
Jeff

Hey Guys,
I'm thinking of going with an electronic battery isolator instead of a relay. I am thinking of using a NOCO IGD200HP battery isolator.
http://www.amazon.com/NOCO-IGD200HP-High-Performance-Battery-Isolator/dp/B00316GNYM
The price seems right with what I would be getting. Has anyone in this forum had experience good or bad with this unit? I am new to electronic battery isolators. It looks easy enough to connect up. Been looking for examples of installs on this forum.
Thanks
Chris
